Do I need to trim my wicks?

Yes, before each and every burn of your candle it is important to trim the wick. If your candle wick is too long it can cause smoking, and blacken the sides of your glass tumbler.  We recommend a cut length of 1/4 inch using a wick trimmer, however small household scissors work just as well. Make sure to only ever cut the wick once the wax has cooled to avoid any access wick dropping into the wax. This is easier to remove when the wax is set. Have a wick that is too long will not only cause your candle to burn quicker but will cause an added fire risk, as your candle will burn hotter.

How do I remove the excess wax to reuse the tumbler?

If you are wanting to reuse your glass tumbler, a good way of removing the excess wax in the bottom is to place the tumbler in the freezer for 1/2 hour, this will shrink the wax and can then be easily removed. Otherwise, run some hot water from the tap, adding a little washing up liquid into the tumbler and leave to soak overnight. The tumbler can then be emptied and wax disposed of the bin, gently pick the wick sticker off, be careful to not use sharp objects to remove as this may scratch the paintwork of the tumbler. Wash your tumbler with warm soapy water and a sponge, leave to dry or dry as normal ad its ready to use again.

How can I avoid my candle tunnelling?

Tunnelling is a term used to describe when wax near the centre of your candle burns deeper than the edges. To avoid this, its vital that you get your first burn just right. Normally 1 hour per inch in diameter will allow for tunnelling to be avoided - this creates what is known as a memory ring. After your first burn, try to avoid lighting your candle for short periods of time to avoid tunnelling later on. However, make sure to never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time, and allow your candle to fully cool and rest for relighting.

Why isn't the appearance of my candle completely smooth and uniform after I have burnt it?

As all our candle are made from natural coco soy wax, they can sometimes differ in appearance. Natural waxes such as soy wax contain vegetable oils, these oils are a natural product and reset in a natural form. This is a true marker of a natural product, without any artificial additives added to enhance their appearance. This will no affect the quality or burn time of your candle. We also avoid using dyes in our candle, but fragrance oils can differ in shade and therefore may tint the wax. Each and every Boho Candle is hand poured in small batches, so wax weight can vary slightly.
